XVI - Catholicity
[This chronicle is best read from the beginning.]
As soon as Justinius Moat reached Schrödinger’s Syndicate, the commanders of its various forces started receiving Inquisitorial communiques informing them that their cooperation was required by the Ordo Hereticus. The Rogue Trader had been expecting this, and The Watch were the first to put themselves entirely at the disposal of Witchfinder Lukas’s officious Interrogator. The Marlinspikes, Incomers and Proper Jobbers have also been ordered to make themselves available. Schrödinger was surprised to hear that even the Brethren of the Tenebrous Shield had been ordered to provide the Emperor’s Vendetta with a few Sisters of Silence! Such is the authority of an Inquisitorial Seal.

The Emperor's Vendetta |
As a Puritan, Interrogator Moat is nothing if not narrow-minded, and yet his entourage of Inquisitorial Agents is remarkably eclectic and diverse:

Trooper Tice, Death World Veteran |
Trooper Tice was discovered by Witchfinder Lukas while hunting rogue psykers on a desert world. The Cadian was the sole survivor of an ambush and had survived for months, alone in the arid dunes and beset by enemies, not least the planet’s environment itself. His resilience was the product of exceptional training, astonishing mental and physical resilience, and iron self-discipline. This grim and humourless veteran is now an invaluable – and ruthlessly efficient – soldier in service of the Inquisition.

Rawlinson the Pistoleer |
Rawlinson is gregarious, attractive and stylish. But her many would-be suitors soon find out that her heart is already spoken for: she is also absolutely obsessed with handguns. If she isn’t at target practice, she will invariably be found stripping, cleaning and tweaking her beloved pistols. Or carving hexogramic wards into her ammunition.

Autosavant Broomfield |
Broomfield may be non-verbal but he still has plenty to say. The Autosavant is rarely silent, for his quills are constantly scratching away at his parchments, recording information in his miniscule, perfect calligraphy. Wherever he travels, he insists on transporting vast containers of scrolls, each meticulously catalogued and indexed. Yet these form but a small fraction of the data he has recorded, the rest of which is held in secure storage at the Witchfinder's headquarters.

Gun Servitor I1a |
Interrogator Moat has been allocated a number of gun servitors for his mission, each with the designation ‘I1’. It is meaningless to say how long these cyborgs have been in the service of the Inquisition, for every part of them – including their human organs – has been replaced so many times that it is likely that none of the original automaton remains. The other agents jokingly refer to them as 'trigger brooms', presumably a derogatory allusion to sanitation servitors.

Bash, Penal Legionnaire |
Dragged from his cell on a maximum security penal ship, Bash was forcibly inducted into the service of the Inquisition. But when he realised his new life was to be one of regular and extreme violence, he quickly settled into his role. Over the years he has even become a devout worshipper of the Emperor, albeit in his own, alarmingly brutal way. Even Trooper Tice, who originally dismissed Bash as ‘undisciplined hive scum’ has a grudging respect for the former ganger, though the two fighters could hardly be more different.

Mad Stott, Hexorcist |
What Mad Stott may lack in personal hygiene (which is plenty), he more than makes up for in zeal for the Imperial Creed. Surrendered to the Ecclesiarchy at birth, he has lived a long life in service of the Emperor. Yet his enthusiastic faith has never dimmed but grows with every ‘suicide’ mission the Inquisition grants him. The apparently frail old man’s vigour never fails to surprise his fellow agents - and his enemies.

Fletcher the Enlightener |
Fletcher is a puffy-lipped deviant, appallingly cruel and utterly unlikeable. Yet his skill at extracting intelligence from heretics is second to none. His demeanour is so menacing that very often, fear alone is the only tool he really needs. Not that this prevents him employing his other instruments of course.

Hill, a Mystic |
As the youngest and newest member of Interrogator Moat’s entourage, Hill is still finding his feet. It cannot help that as a Puritan, Justinius strongly disapproves even of sanctioned psykers, but the Witchfinder has insisted that the Emperor’s Vendetta includes Mystic Agents.

Interrogator Justinius Moat |
Even though they hail from a diverse range of backgrounds, every member of Justinius Moat’s retinue shares an almost fanatical devotion to the Emperor, to the Inquisition and, in particular, to Witchfinder Lukas herself.
The Emperor's Vendetta Inquisitorial Agents Kill Team
I wanted my Inquisitorial Agents to be as diverse as possible, but still share a common look. So I used the same colours for all their weapons and equipment but varied their robes and skin colours. Including my Arbites (The Watch), I've covered all the colours of the rainbow.
