XXI - Catharsis

Rogue Trader Schrödinger was becoming increasingly anxious about her growing celebrity. Hiding a secret from the Imperium was a risky prospect at the best of times, but it was becoming downright reckless for her now that her armada included representatives of the Adeptus Mechanicus, Adeptus Custodes, Ecclesiarchy and of course Ordo Hereticus. Furthermore she was still reeling from her almost disastrous attempt to sow confusion by visiting The Five Cyloneans.

Nonetheless, thanks to meticulous planning by her father and her own judicious sharing of confidences, Schrödinger felt confident she had things under control for the time being. The recent discovery of a Slaaneshi pleasure cult within the fleet was deeply disturbing of course, but it did give the Emperor's Vendetta something to focus on. Interrogator Mote needed no encouragement to pursue the heretics, and her loyal Arbites were keeping her abreast of his investigations into the mysterious 'Prophets of Catharsis' and their relationship with the ‘Bane of Barfunweltz’. The more the Inquisition looked in that direction, the easier it was to fulfil her father's charge to protect the galaxy by hiding the truth about Schrödinger's Cataclysm.

But had Schrödinger understood the nature of these 'Prophets of Catharsis', she may not have been so relieved that they were the Inquisition's quarry. When the Harlequins performed their great illusion and made Barfunweltz-2 disappear, they had made every effort to avoid attracting the notice of the one they call 'She Who Thirsts'. However, the attention of the various Imperial authorities in Schrödinger's Cataclysm had itself inevitably attracted the attention of the Imperium's enemies too...

For these Prophets were none other than traitor Astartes legionaries, and the Catharsis which they proclaimed was the very terror that the Monochrome Minstrels sought to avoid with Schrödinger's Cataclysm!

And so it was that Armarnhi the Extraordinary, Verzaatjii the Magnificent and the other Prophets of Catharsis set off in pursuit of Schrödinger's Syndicate. Just like the Imperial authorities, they too sought the truth behind Schrödinger's Cataclysm, for they knew that this was not Slaanesh's doing. Their desire was to chasten those responsible, find the Lost Planet of Barfunweltz-2 and enact the diabolical rituals required to bring about the terrible will of the Prince of Pleasure. 

For the sake not only of the Imperium of Man but of the entire galaxy, it was imperative that the secret of Barfunweltz-2 be kept from the Prophets of Catharsis.
